We are so excited to continue our new monthly feature for The Redbud Hyphen. Redbud President Dorina Lazo Gilmore-Young will be hosting conversations with writers, agents, editors and publishers about the intersection of culture, faith and writing. We hope you will enjoy listening in on these conversations and learning alongside us.
This month’s interview is with Kendra Broekhuis, author of the newly-released novel, Between You and Us (Waterbrook).
In this episode, they discuss:
finding time for writing in between taking care of children
focusing on the importance of mental margin and rest
Kendra shares how the loss of her second child inspired her fiction book
advice for writers pursuing new projects
We hope you enjoy this episode! Let us know what you found meaningful in the comments.
Kendra Broekhuis lives in the city of Milwaukee with her family, where she spends her days driving four of her children from one place to another in her minivan. She’s written, spoken, and created non-fiction content for over a decade, and now is excited to be publishing two novels with WaterBrook, the first of which debuted in March 2024, called Between You and Us. You can find most of her sarcastic ramblings and serious encouragement—including the grief of losing a baby at 33 weeks pregnant—in her newsletter and on Facebook or Instagram.
