Conversations on writing with women of color: Wonderfully, Marvelously Brown

Join Xochitl Dixon with host Dorena Williamson as they discuss Xochitl's newly released book.

Join us for a special conversation with host Dorena Williamson, as they discuss Xochitl’s newly released book, Wonderfully, Marvelously, Brown.

Join a young boy and his service dog on a colorful adventure across the U.S., discovering the beautiful spectrum of brown in God's creation. From freckled faces to giant redwoods, this book embraces every shade of brown from ebony to ivory—a joyous affirmation of God-given beauty in all its forms! Perfect for kids and families celebrating diversity and self-acceptance.

Xochitl (So-Cheel) E. Dixon, a disabled Mexican author, serves Jesus with her beautifully diverse family and her service dog, Callie. She contributes to Our Daily Bread and God Hears Her, and is the author of the “Choose to Change” feature in Tyndale's NLT Go Bible for Kids (2024), Waiting for God: Trusting Him for the Answers to Every Prayer (2019, 2025), What Color is God’s Love? (2024), Wonderfully, Marvelously Brown (2024), and the 2021 ECPA Christian Book Award Finalist, Different Like Me (2020) and Diferente como yo (2022). Crossing international, cultural, and generational lines, she inspires spiritual growth at www.xedixon.com.

In this conversation, they discuss:

  • Xochitl’s upbringing and the tension of being “too light” yet “not American enough.”

  • How Xochitl embraces her Mexican heritage.

  • Why “invisible disability” is an opportunity to empower everyone.

At Redbud Writers, we joyfully celebrate the unity in our God-given diversity. Thanks for sharing your words with the world, Xochitl! We are cheering you on!
